IPI Employees Way
The fury of Ondoy and Pepeng... Year by year, this country the Philippines is battered by typhoons and other natural calamities but to the memory of most Filipinos, Ondoy and Pepeng are two of the cruelest that it literally turned the city into a water world.
September 26 could have been another ordinary Saturday for the employees of Ibiden Philippines. Since it happened to be a non-working Saturday (except the 24/7 production operation), we woke up to a rather gloomy morning with heavy downpours. All week-end out of towns are cancelled as we kept glued on television watching the news and the seemingly increasing calls for help every now and then.
Back in the plant, we learned that the production workers were advised to stay put, spend the night safely inside company premises instead of risking life in the middle of the storm, and yes, flood, deep flood. It was the right decision.
Later in the day, news worsened as we see Metro Manila and nearby cities submerged in house-deep flood. It was horrible until now, with houses gone, and lives taken.
Through all these, the employees of IBIDEN Philippines gathered themselves and immediately reacted to the needs that the fellow employees might have at this condition. At the moment when we did not know yet who amongst us have the same situation as those we can see on TV, IPI employees pooled resources, called for voluntary donation (in cloth, food, blankets, towels, anything that can give temporary comfort) so that we can reach our employees who are probably out there, cold and homeless. With the big population of Ibiden, somebody could be one of the those badly hit.. This is one situation where we could practice what CSR means. Thinking too that each student of the CSR concept would recall that picture of a disaster stricken boy who was helped by a volunteer worker in pursuit of social awareness and responsibility.
IPI employees did not fail this expectation. Innate in everyone Is the desire to be of help. Immediately the day after, many employees voluntarily give whatever they can, many of them anonymous, believing that it is better to help than the one to be helped. We were able to reach our homeless co-workers. We were able to give a little extra to the relocation center evacuees.
It is a clear display of IPI EMPLOYEES WAY Sometimes unnoticed, but definitely will make its way felt. Ibiden Philippines is proud of its flock. The company is also bent to help in these hard times by becoming a donor of relief goods in collaboration with PEZA Manila office.
