IPI and the Community
Engaging the Community
Ibiden Philippines, Inc. (IPI) ended the year 2009 with activities that lead to discovering the community at a different perspective. The Yuletide season kept everyone busy as always, but one thing truly made a difference in the sense that the celebration was not centered on office parties alone. IBIDEN, through its CSR team and volunteer employees found its way to become the arm through which company resources reached the community.
A few days before the young students of Santo Tomas public schools had their Christmas vacation, IPI CSR team started the series of school visits, donating wastes bins each labeled as to biodegradable, non-biodegradable and recyclable. Classroom discussions on proper wastes segregation were also held, thus aiming to establish a partnership on environment preservation between the company and the community.
Sharing with the Community
As of end of year, at least 200 students attended the lecture on basic environment preservation. Going back to their homes, It is expected that these young citizens would lead the entire household in the practice of handling wastes properly. Thanks to the school authorities who fully supported this activity.
One of the first recipients of medicine kits is the nearby health center of Brgy.Makiling. Each bag contains various medicines for common illnesses such as headache, stomach ailments, colds, fever, first aid supplies and a useful tot bag. The members of the community may partake of these free medicines when they visit the health center , through their barangay officials.
A truly unforgettable opportunity was meeting the senior citizens of Sta.Ana San Joaquin Bahay Ampunan. What was initially planned to be a donation of medicine kits turned out to be an impromptu party with the elders ,and the IPI volunteer employees and CSR members. As it was Christmas season anyway, gift-giving coupled with all-out dances made the occasion very memorable and festive. What with the shameless dance moves by the only males who were present ! (They are IPI employees, by the way J) The elders were mostly aged 70 years old and above, and are all female. Each one happily received their bags of medicine kits and even put names on it. Of course, the caretaker of the elders took each bag from them for safekeeping and for safety reasons as well. As the need arises, these cheerful grandmothers will benefit from these medicines.
Still another recipient of donated medicine supplies is the SOS Children’s Village in Lipa. The IPI CSR team members were met by the kind caretakers and resident children of the orphanage village. This place opened itself to us as we were toured around , thereby given the chance to meet the adopted kids, the resident caretakers, and the elders as well who dedicated all their lives taking care of the abandoned children. With the bigger population of this orphanage , IPI CSR team is certain that the donated medicine kits will be put to maximized use by the families who are quietly settling in the village.
Shown above is the donation of several medicine kits received by Fr. Angel of Sta. Clara parish. These items are intended for further distribution by the team of Fr.Angel, during their community outreach activities. With the caretakers and officers of SOS Village.
